Khruangbin (Rock, Soul, and Psychedelia)

Khruangbin

April 27, 2022

Hailing from Houston, Texas - Khruangbin naturally blends the sounds of classic soul, rock, and psychedelic music. The trio consists of Laura Lee on the bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson Jr. on the drums offering smooth soulful music for a loyal fanbase that undoubtedly follows for their incomparable musical talents.

With three full-length albums, five EPs, a multitude of singles, and various compilation and remix albums, Khruangbin’s discography is perfect for long drives with music lovers that have a deep appreciation for the minimalist psychedelic surf-rock style. For any fans of Leon Bridges, Durand Jones & The Indications, and St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Khruagnbin is a listen you will certainly enjoy!

In an article by The Guardian, here’s what they had to say about their music - ‘“When you see us play, it should look like we just fell on to this planet,” Speer says from Oakland, California. “We play Earth music, like we’ve listened to all these different genres – from west African rhythms to Mexican and south Asian melodies – and now here we are.” This unpredictable blend of sounds has led to a slew of miscategorisations when it comes to the band’s output; it’s regularly referred to as either “Thai funk”, “classic soul” or “psychedelia”.’

Their latest release is a single titled Flos Potentia (Sugar, Cotton, Tobacco) with our favorite pick being Texas Sun from a collaboration project with them and Leon Bridges.

Khruangbin is on tour across the North Americas, Europe, and Australia/Oceania. Check their tour dates here!
